The Heartbeats Of Tsarino
Tsarino Artist Recidency is a recurring international project in which invited artists create site-specific works in—and in direct relation to—an abandoned and severely decayed village in southern Bulgaria.
During my participation in the residency, I selected three rooms in one of the houses and made subtle interventions on the walls using charcoal and graphite. I then photographed the spaces and used the prints to construct a collage combining photography, drawing, and text, forming a narrative in which the abandoned houses are reanimated in a new material form. Through a process of abstractification into symbols, my intention was to move beyond the surface of the houses and voice their inner stories. As I heard them.
